OVC

Well crap.  It’s been a long time since I have written anything here, hasn’t it?  I’m finding that getting this site started is just as difficult as I thought it would be…so not much has happened.

The biggest issue I see at this point is the homepage…which is hurting for lack of design skills.  I have some ideas of what would look cool, but getting the concept from my head into code is not really a specialty of mine.  I’m sort of avoiding outside help at this point, which is ironic since the whole idea behind OVC is to get outside help with stuff you can’t do yourself.

Ah, well.

On a positive note, I have gotten the opportunity though my good friend Megan to help an awesome non-profit out with some of their search marketing.  The organization is called Prevention Through Education and they work to help prevent AIDS/HIV in China though education of school age children…a worthy cause indeed.

Well, that’s it for now…hopefully things will start moving forward a bit more with OVC concept in the coming month.  By the way, if anyone is reading this, hi and thanks!

Alright - so I am under a little time pressure.

A video I created, Danger Bird, which had some viral success, is going to be featured on the CNN show “News to Me” this weekend. Since the OVCLab.com URL is going to be shown under my name on the show, I had to get the homepage up and running ASAP.

In the process, I’ve managed to write my own copy and do my own site design - a guaranteed ticket to personal embarrassment (I’m the online marketing person, not a designer or a writer). Like it or not though, necessity is the mother of all invention, so the homepage is what it is (for now).

Hopefully I can get a couple of my talented friends/future OVC members to do a little design/text makeover sooner rather than later.

Since I author a couple of blogs already, I know the best way to get a new one started is by just writing something…so this is that something.

The Online Visibility Collective, or OVC, is a concept I am working on right now, and I’m hoping writing in this blog, and the potential feedback it gets, will help me develop the idea to a point where I can make the concept a reality.

The main idea behind OVC is to put together a group of talented freelance online professionals who can produce high quality work for clients looking to increase their online visibility.  I know that the concept of a collective for freelancers is nothing new, but I think the talents of the people I know can add a ton of value to the online promotional efforts of other companies.

We’ll see how it goes…but I’m excited to see where this all leads.
